Buck Run hunting announcement

We plan to do a money pool for next hunting season’s scoring competition. There is no need to pay, and you can still win first place without paying, though you will not be the winner of any money, And the money will go to the ones behind you that pay. We advise you to pay if you will spend time in the woods next deer season.

The way we intend to do it:

Ex. We get 10 people with a fee of 10 dollars per person.

Top 3 get money. 1st may get $60, 2nd may get $30, and 3rd may get $10.

With the thought of paying, we came with the idea that we may need to improvise the rules. We will likely have a vote of all that pay soon before deer season starts.

Ideas that may need to be changed/updated/revised:

-the counting of points per deer

We currently have a decent method that works pretty well, where any deer is 5 points, plus one point per point on its antlers. One thing that may need changing is the fact that a small 8 point would be valued higher than a good size 6 point, though the 6 point may be a nicer buck. I don't think we should go down to a Boone and crocket scoring, but some revising may be necessary. The way we have it may be the best for a hunting competition like this.

-The misses relative to 2 necessary shots

We currently have the rules so you get one shot per deer, and all other shots are deductions, but the point was brought up that is may be necessary to take two shots at a deer, like if you gut shot it you should try another to the heart, and also, would kill shots be deductions? Maybe we should make only misses deductions, or make misses 1 point deductions, and extra hits (like if you shoot and hit a deer twice) only a half point deduction. Then, it can also be hard to tell how many shots hit the deer, and sometimes a hit deer may run away and they can't prove that they hit it.

-The fawn killing deductions

These parts of the rules were mainly jokes, but if you believe there should be real rules toward not killing fawns, bring it up.

-Dedication points

Currently, we're split on how these points should be counted. It is clearly unjust if a person like Wyatt last year gets a deer the first day, and someone gets Dedication points to beat him, even though they shot no deer. I beleive Dedication points should be purely used as tie breakers, but some think they should be counted more seriously, like we count them as actual points, and we just give 1st place to the one with the deer If the prior problem comes up. I think this makes little sense, as points are points, And I don't think we should just make a rule “if a person with Dedication gets more points then a person with a deer, the person with the deer still gets more points” I think the tie breaker idea makes more sense, but we will see in the vote.

-Lastly, do bears count?

We did include in the rules last year that bears count as points, but I think this year we should keep it a strictly deer pool.

We will arrange some meeting and/or vote before the season to discuss the rules, so make sure to bring it up if you have a idea.
